I don't have the space or a suitable place to use a jack and stands (townhouse, no garage), I don't like dealing with spent fluids, and most jobs just come easier with a lift and air tools, so I throw my local shop quite a few jobs. It's good to have a place that you can cultivate a relationship with over the course of some regular oil changes, so if you really DO find yourself in a bind, you're more likely to get good, honest service.
