Turning on the A/C at high speed when it hasn't been used for a while can be a problem on any car. If it has been used in the last week or two, there should be no issue.

Personally, if I turn on the A/C at freeway speed, I throw in the clutch and allow the engine to idle down before swithing the A/C on. Then I gently rev match before reingaging the clutch. I'm sure that this is overkill.

Ahh.. there's the paraphrase.. I'd rather have Jim in here stating what it was he was saying than to spread misinformation. Glad I heard about the "within the last week" part. I was under the assumption that meant any time.
