Hey guys, My 98 Mercury Mystique's tranny crapped out a few months ago and I decided that it's not worth fixing. I am wondering of any of you know of any reputable car donation sites. I have searched online (top hits on google) and I just do not know which sites are legit and which are the scams. I am located in Rochester, NY and if any of you can recommend a car donation site or suggest any other means of disposing of this car, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. On another note, since then, I have picked up a NA miata, oh boy, what a car! Kevin

We donated my moms Aero star to the kidney foundation. We live in Canandaigua and they came and picked it up for us as well. I would check out http://kidney.org/ they take cars and make them better and give them to the less fortunate.

EDIT: And if you use kidney its a tax write off... I know that your just trying to find a reputable place, but its a nice perk.

That sounds awesome. How long did the whole process take? From when you filled out the form til the day they picked up the car.

How many miles did the trans last?? My brother donated his old Escort GT (had 195k on it) to kidney car... They came and picked it up from him. Said it was worth way more than it actually was too... They wrote on the tax form that it was worth $2500... Where in Rochester are you?? There are a couple of us in the area... Brad (the_spy_guy) with his SVT is in Penfield, as am I... I've got a 99 Cabernet Red Mystique... That hasn't been on the road for almost a week due to a bad wheel bearing... I kinda miss it... Hopefully i'll get it all back together tomorrow...

The tranny lasted for 120k miles. I know, she's still young, but it just crapped out, called for a new torque converter. The car starts and everything, it just doesn't like to move. I see kidney car is the place to do it, so I suppose that's where I should donate it to.
I'm a student at RIT, and I live in the ghetto(in the city of rochester, across the river from UR,by Genesse St ). Only place that I can get cheap rent. It wasn't a cheap year considering, my housemates and I got robbed of most of our stuff . For the year that I had my mystique I have not see too many contours/mystiques on the road that weren't being driven by old folks. I even tried the wave on a few that I have seen, I either get ignored or the longest awkward stare of all time.

Yup! What an amazing car! There is another autocross this weekend at an airfield, I'm sure going to have fun this weekend

I know an RIT student looking for a roomate, his parents moved into a new house and left him the old one, only like 20 years old the house that is. 350 a month gets you everything including utls, but its 40 minute drive to RIT campus.

I pay about 400 a month right now, which is not that bad, but i am definitely saving the money on gas though! I think my 10 minute drive to campus is too long! Thanks though.

Maybe sell it in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. Or e-bay or even classifieds here at Contour.org.
