Thought I would post after everyone saying they had problems/blisters after doing it.
AndySVT came up with idea of using T-Shirts. (not the CEG shirts wink ) MAD PROPS TO Andy !!!

1. Wet the car.
2. Get some fishing line (more that 3lb test). Using leather work gloves hold fishing line and pull back and forth behind strip.
3. Grab strip and pull off car. ; )
4. Take off shirt and put thumb inside.
5. Use shirt and rub across remaining foam adhesive. I did mine at a 45degree angle (downward).
6. Do step 5 for about 20 min to remove all adhesive.
7. Laugh at those with blisters after doing it. ; ) Just kidding about #7.

Here are a couple of pics.

This looks like an awesome mod to do just because it seems rather easy, the only reason I am weary of doing it is having paint faded underneath the strips. I have a 1997 Tour so it has been through 4 years of sun now, has anyone with an older tour done this? Was paint faded, and if it is how do you restore it to a nice look? Thanks for any help.

Has anyone tried just using a heat gun to take them off? (It works for badges etc.)

kjgolf09: You get a 5 star just for the name. smile I wouldn't know about the paint, tho I would suggest peeling it back *a little* and taking a look. You could always repair it if the paint is "that bad."

Andy: Yeah right  Those beatup looking claws you call hands .... :p Whatever. laugh

I did think about/suggest using a heat gun. However the worry *to me* is the outline of the foam crap. I have taken several stickers off (my old cars) using a heat gun and it always left the outline of the sticker. If you are will to test I am sure (if it works well) people would love to hear.
wink

kjgolf09,

I did this to a 96(pass. side anyway)and there was kind of a 'lip' where the paint transfered from door to where the guard used to be. Does that make sense. The quality of the paint under the guard seemed good except for that 'lip'. Asked a body shop and the guy said the door must have been painted without removing the strips. HTH.

If you took care of your paint before (wash ans wax often) it should be fine. I had soem factory paint problerms when I bought my car and the dealer painted one of the doors. They put the moldsings on too soon because the plastic adheared to the clearcoat. I only noticed after I removed the ding guards. So, I took it back to the dealer and they buffed it out.

If you are worried about the color, then it is time to try Zaino. It'll bring back the original shine (actually better) and blend it all together.

I guess the only concern is faded paint showing up on my car. I'll have to check with a body shop about any remedies for that.
