while i was looking at 05's about two weeks ago the dealer (biggest one in the area) had ONE GT convertible and one GT hardtop that was completely customized (nasty) and already sold. they had tonssss of v6s both vert and hardtop. the salesman i was dealing with is the owner's grandson. he said they "dont have a markup on GTs" but you have to buy one with custom wheels on it or pay an extra grand (but its working cuz theyre sold out and i know two people already who bought GTs on 20s there). no markups for the V6 at all. there were pleeenty of Saleens to be purchased, mostly verts and cost $50k while only adding 25hp! i really dont care for the Saleen verts but i do like their hardtops. the funny things is, ive seen waaay more Saleens running around here than GTs! (all hardtops). ive seen GTs maybe three times on the street. not one GT vert. ive seen GTOs maybe ten times since theyve come out. i probably dont notice them as easily since they kinda look grand am-ish. but they are sweet ass cars and id take one over a GT mustang, although itd be a tough choice. man, you guys talked about seeing deals on GTOs advertised in the paper for cheap. i looked many times but never saw them advertised with reduced prices. just think what a used one will go for in a few years

NOW youre talking! i would love to have one of those or the Typhoon
unfortunately, the cost of buying/shipping/converting one is too prohibitive. youd have to have money falling out of your pockets to do that.

How do you come to that conclusion? Sales for their most recongizeable car are through the roof, and you think they're f'ed?
They can't keep the car on the lots because they're selling left and right.
Sounds pretty successful to me.
MUSTANG GT... NOT MUSTANG V6.. this is abotu peopel NOT being able to get a Mustang GT.
I don't remeber saying ANYTHING about sales either, I'm talking about catching up with demand. 90% of people who WANT to buy a Mustang GT CAN NOT buy a mustnag GT right now. Ford screwed up on this part and HAS cost them.. GTO is seeing bigger sales.... true, they are turning people away from the V8 gas guzzler and putting their customers in V6's with flashy rims, grille inserts, rear bumper replicas with dual exhaust to amke it LOOK liek a GT. I'd say Ford DID mess up and that they are [censored] right now until this situation clears and everything catches up with everyone. Not sure if I have EVER talked to someone who knows ANYTHING abotu the car industry that has ever disagreed with this matter.
Ford is most definately not screwed over this. Yes it does frustrate some customers because they can't get the particular car they want as quickly as they want; but that is the way it works for new models that are in high demand. Is it true that Ford marketing misjudged the pent up demand for the V8 cars? yeah, probably, but the split is accurate for the time when the demand curve settles out.
In regards to GTO having bigger sales? You are kidding right? I should ban you for a statement that retarded. The Holden plant that builds the GTO isn't capable of delivering more than 20k units per year to the US; while Mustang sales for 2005 will fall just shy of nearly TEN TIMES that amount.
Chad, you need stop with the half-cocked statements and blatant fabrications; it is ruining your credibility.
Again, my comment was based on the views as a CUSTOMER, not the company or it's sales. Thats all I am saying. Just look at several members on CEG alone and they're frustration with Ford and the GT mixup... you can't tell me there is no animosity towards Ford for this exceedingly large miscalculation. Ofcoarse there's nothing they can do abotu it and Ford IS making desperate strives to put ALL mustang lovers in teh seat of a V6. Huge incentives, amazing lease rates, and a HUGE dealer aftermarket contribution. The GTO's sales are up... but I guess my statement came out sounding like they were better...which they are not. I never said they were better, per se.. just up. Yes, the 2005 Stang has better sales (all trim levels aside) than the GTO, Corvette, or Viper (possibly combined) in 2005. Quite obvious in the Metro Detroit as you see 1 corvete per 20 Mustangs.
Sorry Rara... I'll put more thought in my posts before I hit "submit".

Well, geez, with that disclaimer, you can make just about any statement you want because every cusstomer will have a different view, and there will bound to be one that agrees somewhere, no matter how silly the statement is.

I know Roger got frustrated waiting, but who else?

I'm sure there is somewhere, but by and large, i think most people (Roger included) realize that sometimes, demand will outstrip supply for very popular items. This is especially true when increased production would require hundreds of millions of dollars of investment, and long term expectations won't support the increased production. I highly disagree that there was an exceedingly large miscalculation; any one that REALLY wants a Mustang GT can still get one, albeit at a higher, dealer marked-up price. If there is animosity, I would highly suspect it is due to the practice of dealer markup, rather than Ford building as many as it possibly can and not able to supply everyone immediately.

This isn't anywhere near Mustang specific, it is industry-wide, and you will note that the Mustang is excluded from Ford's latest employee pricing promotion . . .

GTO production was originally planned at 18,000 units for 2004, and was scaled back to 12,000 units for 2005 due to poor sales. Sales may have gone back up some due to recent promotions, but I highly doubt it is even back up to near the 18k figure for 2004. Compared to a planned production of ~192,000 Mustangs for 2005 (with lots of pent up demand still for 06's . . .) So basically, even your backtracking statement of the GTO sales being up is pretty much just wrong.

Please do. And you aren't the only one. At least don't post sheer postulation as fact, spend a few minutes checking out your facts to be sure . . .
