This might not accurate. In discussing with a fellow CEGer, it was pointed out that this model year has not had pre-filter screen issues in the fuel tank (none that we know of anyway). So just try changing the fuel filter and see if that helps. If it doesn't, I'm sure someone else will chime in with more suggestions. Good luck.

Sounds like a deal - looks like a nice cheapo fix so I'll get that filter changed. So why does that lead to intermittant no starts? Does it clog up, then while it sits there all the crap settles out of it so enough gets through so it runs?

I guess so.
Er... for the fuel filter change, if it has not been done for some time, I wonder if you might need to spray some WD-40 or something on the fuel lines where it meets the fittings on the filter. If the filter has not been changed for some time, apparently, it can be quite hard to get it off. There was an occasion where a CEGer broke the elbow on the line. It seems Ford does not sell just the elbow and you have to get the whole line (or get the elbow from a junk yard). So just be careful when removing it.

OK - replaced fuel filter - piece of cake - can't believe I payed someone 30some-odd bucks to do it the last time. Of course I don't know if that solved the issue as the darn thing started up for me when I got there before i changed it out........
grrrrrr
Is it normal for there to be BIG pressure when you take off the gas cap - like it hisses for 10-15 seconds till all the air is out and I can take the cap off fully? It was doing that as well.
Honestly - i've about had it with this thing. Mother in law has a 2000 mazda 626 I can get pretty cheap. Although the car is fun (5sp v-6 - and still a looker!), at some point in time it just gets really old not being able to trust it. I'm not even sure I could sell it for anything worthwile. I'd be scared I'd sell it to some dude and the next day it wouldn't start for him and I'd feel like crap.
AC is out too - can you re-charge those early 95 models by yourself?

Hissing with gas cap off, Normal. If you open real quick, the air comes out quick, if you just "do the clicks" slow, it will hiss longer.
If there isn't a major leak, A/c recharge, yes. The low pressure valve is located (look for a black plastic cap) on a horizontal pipe, on top of the radiator, closer to the battery). There is an earlier post on this.
Edit. Here is the post
