You take the grill/cover they supply with the speakers and then put the plastic bezel (minus the actual grill piece) BEHIND the speaker. This then acts as a template for mounting the 6x9 AND as a spacer to set the speaker out from the door, so the magnet doesn't hit anything in the door. We installed 6x9 Pioneers in all four doors of two SVT's without have to cut anything. You just drill a couple new holes to suit the bolt pattern of the 6x9 vs the 6x8 and that's about it. On some speakers you need to trim the door pull reinforcement bracket on the back door as it can touch the eadge of the spreaker frame, but that's it.
hey, i didn't cut the doors. the previous owner did.

100% wrong. Most good speakers are round, but there are and have been oval speakers that are just as good as any round speakers available. Most sub 100.00 pairs of speakers just dont use high quality drivers regardless of shape.

Hmm well lets see, i've got a bunch of voice coils around here.
Oval cones CANNOT move in a linear fashion. Why? the resistance is not equal all around the cone its just the nature of having to move more area on the long side of the cone. this is true eventhough the cone has the same rubber ring all around it flexes more like a lazy M when its. excited. to me it makes sense because the area that you are trying to move is greater on the long side of the oval shape than on the short side from center.
Does it matter? not for Voice sounds because voice is more like noise(multiple frequencies)and you probably cant hear the distortion.
But for Bass its a different story. since bass can be locked down to only several low frequecies, when there is distortion or the signal is not purfect you will hear it.
i guess its why most mids and highs are oval because it does not matter that much SQ is affected but not by much. if you buy really high end mid/high speeakers they will probably be round. they reproduce evenly all around the cone
and subs are round.
i could be wrong

I don't have pictures of it - but open your imagination with me here:
So you know when you buy a set of 6x9's they come witha plastic bezel and a mesh oval that clicks into that bezel, right? And typically you screw in a 6x9 with the bezel on top of it and then when you're done you click in the mesh to protect the speaker, right? OK, NOW, instead of screwing in the speaker with the bezel on TOP of the speaker, just put it underneath, with the bezel still facing outwards, and screw both of them in. The bezel then acts as a small spacer to move the speaker away from the door, understand?
If you don't get what I'm saying...well, there's no hope for you!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Stazi you forgot to tell him to use the High Preformance paint. I really have no comment on this thread its just funny.. I don't use oval speakers cuase i think that there is only 50% of acctual useable cone surface area.
