Its a bear... having another person to help will be tremendously advantageous.

Pulling straight out on the hub (holding the spinning/stud part of the hub and pulling outwards) while trying to remove the axle will help as well

all this is if you don't have, nor have access to, a pneumatic hammer.

Murray's (and I'm sure other auto parts stores) rent out a hub puller (...free) helps remove and install the hub onto the axle.

The end of the axle shaft is a lightly press fit into the hub. If you hit it, you may damage the end and the nut will no longer thread onto the axle.
I used a 3 arm gear puller and some PB blaster and it came apart very easily. If you are replacing the wheel bearing, please do not smash it in with a hammer, you can destroy the balls and bearing surface and most likely will split the bearing apart. The inner race is a split design and will come apart. At autozone you can rent the tools, they will refund you the price when you return the tool.

and when you put the axle back into the hub don't hit the hub with a hammer, that's how i got an efft wheel bearing, but i wasn't hammering.

For the passenger side if you pull on the hub you can pull the inner CV joint apart and likely create a lot of unnecessary extra stress in your life. If this happens you may destroy the rubber boot. It is sort of like getting a disjointed shoulder joint.
