I to have seen tapered pads do this. Give them some time.

thanks for some more ideas folks. I have put on about another 150 miles and am noticing that the drivers side pads look like they're begining to seat a little more. Perhaps some 0-60 MPH and back will help seat them a little more,however, the "sponginess" feeling is not there now and that may be a good sign.

Please recheck your work, the calipers must not be sliding properly. Did you grease the pin(s)? Maybe the whole calipers are just not hung on there right.
