Huh???? Big Jim, are you saying that the A/c comes on when I have the heat (button turn to red) on and blower switch button on the defrost? Could you please clarify? Thanks.

Yep,

(I know I'm not Big Jim)

If you have the defrost on and the temp is above a certain temp (probably around 40-50 degrees F.), the A/C compressor will run to take moisture out of the cabin.

HTH,

T

Yes, it is true. When either of the two defrost modes are on (windshield only and windshield/vent combination) the A/C is on so that it can more quickly remove moisture from the windshield.

Max cooling cools the cabin air. As the temp of the cabin goes down the head pressure of the compressor lowers and it requires less power as the cabin air cools.

Also at hi-way speeds the a/c requires less power than the aerodynamic drag caused by open windows.
More comfortable and same gas milage! Contours are aerodynamically pretty slick.

My old Dodge Lancer does that noticeably, so much a/c drag it almost can't move but less drag after things cool. System pressure explains why. My Mystique handles the load better
