Could this be the AC Clutch? As the compressor heats up, it could be doing something to the clutch.

Quite frankly, if no one here knows, you might need to head to a shop....

I ws going to suggest checking in to the AC clutch, or clutch relay, as well. Increased heat leads to the weakened ability to hold open (clutch)

Check if the cooling fans are operating both should run noisily, and the temperature gauge on your instrument panel should not be above normal range. If it is, your a/c may stop, and the engine may be overheating, needs a new waterpump. Very common problem, worth checking. (A plugged A/C drain would cause wetness and bad odors in your car.) Dell's new BTX Dimensions look promising. I am running an XPST700r, modified

Was just undedr the wife's car this week and did notice the condensate drain nipple. Looking up from the bottom, it was centered just below a pair of hoses that enter the firewall near the base, just slightly on the passenger side of center.

I'd suspect one of two things: Either the clutch is slipping as it gets warm as Ray suggested, or the evaporator is freezing up.

You can perform a visual inspection on the clutch by watching it engage or disengage during A/C operation. Easy to see from underneath. Hard to see from the top, but is possible. If this were an SHO, I'd suggest reshimming the clutch gap as that is a common problem on that car. Don't know if it's applicable on the 'Tour, though.

If the evaporator freezes up, you would notice a damp or moist condition of the air coming from the vents. If the car were then parked, it would leave a very large puddle of water as the ice melted - assuming the drain is open.

A clogged drain will often cause foul odors, but the most common symptoms will be either wet carpet or the sound of water sloshing around inside the dash (A/C Evap plenum).

The Compressor Clutch could be slipping. That was my problem that I just fixed. I replaced the clutch without taking out the compressor. It was not that hard contrairy to previous posts in this forum. Total Cost $ 30.00.

To check the clutch: check the air gap, specification 0.014 inch to 0.033 inch.

If you have very cold air when your A/C is on, it is NOT your compressor.

Good luck,

I replaced the Clutch and installed a new shim kit and a new 8mm bolt.

No more problem:

When you have the gauges set up to check high side and low side readings, what is normal on the SVT? I have a 98 svt. Thanks

There are a number of variables...Temperature being one of the more important.

Before the compressor clutch engages, both sides will measure the same pressure, usually 75-120 psi depending on the underhood temp.

Once the compressor engages, the low side should drop to between 25 and 40 psi and the high side should rise to between 175 and 350 again, depending on the ambient temp.

Ford does not use temperature vs. pressure charts for charging or servicing. Everything is based on the weight of the refrigerent when charging.
