I would also say snopes may have invalidated parts of the data, but it does not mean the actual e-mail is false. The guy could well be putting this information in his class.
In fact, I would be willing to think that if the data WAS incorrect to the class, the guy would be commenting that information is not from his class to preserve his reputation.
