So I downloaded all 7 seasons of Macgyver and was watching the first season. In the 2nd episode (may have been 3rd) Macgyver goes to stop a leak of hydrochloric acid with some chocolate bars. He said something about sucrose and dextrose stopping it from leaking. I was wondering if that would actually work. I am assuming that if it did work, that fix would be very temporary... but I was asking a co-worker and she didn't think it would work. Any chemical engineers in the house that would like to chime in?
btw, I looked on google and found nothing

Sucrose structure: Note that any basic carbohydrate structure would dehydrate at the central O bond, also called a glycosidic center. I think if you added HCl it would form carbon, but it matters how much HCl is added. If it's a large volume, it's not possible. I'm not very familar w/ the structure of Dextrose, but I think it's just the D-glucose (I'm pretty sure it's D-glucose, since normal glucose is L-glucose). In any case, it's a carbohydrate as well and would occur with the same dehydration synthesis @ the glycosidic center. Macgyver is the friggin' man! I loved the episode on Family Guy, where he took the paper clip and rubber band and it richocheted into his eye...friggin' hillarious!
