not in a drag race, but a truck pull

my boss keeps running his mouth saying his durango will drag my dads F150.

about the trucks

mine is a 92 F150, 4WD, automatic, 5.8L v8, single cab, 8 ft bed, 31x10.50x15 tires (with good tread) and about 145K miles on it. it has open diffs both front and rear, and a heavy duty hitch on it. also has a K%N drop in and a cat-back exhaust (glass pack and dual tail pipes)

the durango is the previous body style )2001 maybe?) either a 4.7 or a 4.9 v8, i forget which one. automatic trans, and 4WD. about 60K on it from what i rememeber when i drove it, and he says it got posi's in it. 31s just like the F150, also with good tread and it got a hitch also.

chain connecting the 2 hitches, whos gonna drag who down the street. he wants to bet me a weeks pay on it that he will drag me backwards down the street, which i dont think he will. the only think im worried about is the fact that that i got peg legs on my truck and he got posi's

btw this is a serious situation, not made up trying to look cool like the guy did racing his boss's durango. i seriously wanna know who you guys think will win, and i dont wanna look stupid losing and i cant afford to lose a weeks pay. i wanna know if i should do it or not

"Yeeeeeeeeee-haw!!!!!!"

Your F-150 by far.

We all know a CSVT can beat a hemi durango in the 1/4.

The Durango (4.7L by the way), is an absolute dog in towing and has very little Torque. I'd put my money on the F-150- more torque, less weight, higher HP, and a heavy duty auto. Go tug his his ass down the street and have fun with the money. Wait... how much money are we talking?!

everyone ive talked to is betting against the ford

what worries me is fact that he got posi differentials and i got open ones

he also might weigh more than me cause i got an open bed no cap or anything, im worried he will have traction and ill sit there smoking my tires off as im getting dragged down the road

as for pulling power....ive towed a 4 door exploder on a uhaul tow trailer (not tow dolly) up and down hills with no problem

as for the hillbilly comment....i work with a bunch of rednecks, what do you expect

another guy wants to put his F250 superduty diesel against the F150 and my little bronco 2, but im confident he would drag them both at the same time so i wont think about that bet

Then why are you considering it? You've got 2 posts in one day about how bad you're hurting for money. Maybe it's reasons like this that you blow the money that you DO have.

Put your pride back in your pocket and tell him thanks but no thanks.

Power-wise and pulling-wise the 351W F-150 will kick the measly 4.7L Durango's ass. It's no contest.

However what matters more is traction. Who has the best tires for the ground you are pulling on. Superior traction will normally beat superior power.

Dirt or asphalt? In dirt the tires will be a big factor. On the pavement, the truck with the heavier weight will have the edge, provided it doesn't break traction. I assume you will have them in low range. The posi should help the durango, and I think it probably has an edge in the weight department. What about rear end gears?

My 4.7 Dakota had no problem towing a uhaul w/ Ranger through the hills of WV @ 65 mph+.

Too many variables to get a definate answer...but I would give the nod to the Durango.

Let us know how it turns out.
