I am working on a 1999 Contour with the V6. I am getting the low flow to the EGR error code. I replaced the EGR valve, cleared the code, but within a day the check engine light came back on. Can it be carbon built up in the tube ?

Thanks,

Carbon build up has always been the problem I had on my 2 V6s. Get yourself some gaskets, carb cleaner - the good stuff like Berryman's or Gumout. something to scrape the carbon out with and a piece of mechanics wire to run through the passage from the TB to the EGR valve.

Use the search function and type in your code # , could it be P0401, or P0402? If so you may have replaced the wrong part. Next time you have the codes pulled post them here if you need help. BTW who told you to replace the EGR?

EGR failure is VERY uncommon..

more likely causes are CLOGGED EGR's, clogged EGR passegeways (including inside edge of the TB) and a faulty DPFE

Welcome to the site!

All engines with small EGR distribution passages behind the throttle body are subject to clogging.

As a matter of fact, you would also benifit from an intake cleaning and MAF cleaning Check here .
