you'll regret buying a v6....why not just buy a say '99 model gt(if you must have a new edge body style)instead of a newer v6....same body style just a little older and with a v8....
the reason i say this is because in your original post you asked about mods...well modding a v6 stang is almost pointless...sure there are plenty of aftermarket parts available for the v6's....but why spend thousands of dollars just to get the performance of a bone stock gt...i'd shop around if i was you for a gt in your price range..

Even one of the old 96-98 GTs are better than a V6. With some new heads it will run pretty hard.
Right now me and my uncles are building up a 98 GT with tons of mods, almost too long to list. Procharged, H/C package, Tokico and Steeda suspension parts, and more. We are hoping for at least 350rwhp but I think it will blow up eventually even with a good tune.

I beat an SN95 V-6 Mustang in our Explorer from a 20 MPH roll a while back. Of course, this isn't a fair fight because the Explorer's 5R55E and 4.10s makes it a very surprising vehicle. The new V-6 Mustang (2005) must be quite a bit of fun. It's the same 4.0 Cologne SOHC as the Explorer, but a lot lighter. The 3.8 Essex is a turd. The Post-99s with the split port are better, but the only V-6 Mustang I'd drive is the Cologne models.
If you are really set on an SN95 V-6, make sure it's a stick shift please. There are V-6s running 12 second 1/4s, but the Essex is a ticking time bomb to me. It also can't compare to that modular sound. Go see how the newer V-6s are. Trust me that the Cologne 4.0 would waste any Essex. I have surprised an IS300 and a 1.8T Beetle before. With a supercharger, the Cologne would be a beast.

Yeah i agree. A buddy of mine bought a 97 (i think) V6 and after about 3 months sold it. Bought a 89 notchback with the 5.0, and currently has about 425whp without any forced induction. The 5.0 is one of the easiest, and cheepest engines to modify.

I owned a 88 5.0 5spd about 2 years ago. I loved it and I still kick myself today for selling it. We have a 93 5.0 GT Convertible now, but its auto. So weak, but oh well. Not mine so don't care.

I've got one. I seem to know a thing or three about them. Mine is a 94 Cobra, with the solid axle replaced with an independant rear suspension. Other than that it is pretty close to stock until I can find the freaking time to finish the twin turbo setup (need to fabricate a few parts still, and fit everything up). These mustangs ( www.rehagenracing.com ) are what take up most of my time to keep my car from getting done. Fwiw, we are shooting for the debut of our first 05 Mustang race car at Barber at the end of this month . . . there is a lot of work left to do though, so keep your fingers crossed
