I'm corry the clay bar didn't do anything, but you know that you now have the cleanest surface for the base. You defiantly want to wash off all the residue with either Dawn or Z7 before starting with Z1. Once that is done, don't worry about screwing up. It's really hard to, except for applying too thick a coat. I apply coats in the garage, then move car into the sun if possible. Rub your finger across the surface to tell when it's ready to take Z2/Z5 off. It will smear with your finger if not ready.
