So, I'm flipping through the channels tonight and I stumble upon this show. Now, I know normally MTV's programming is garbage, which is why i rarely watch...but this one sucked me in for an hour.
It's the usual, they profile 3 people. In this case, 3 marines who just returned from their tours in iraq. 2 physically unharmed, but severly stressed about the possibility of being sent back to iraq because they both have about a year left on their contracts...and the one that got me watching the show - This kid Joey, who lost both legs and an hand. I missed the part about how, but that doesn't matter.
I'm sitting there, watching this kid recover in the hospital...it turns out he gets an aneurism in his good arm, which could possibly leave him with no hands (luckliy it was removed successfully and he didn't lose his other hand). And the only thing he's concerned about is getting out of that fuggin' bed and on his feet again. His family and friends are in the hospital crying, and he's not worried at all about his injuries. He marries his girlfriend in the hospital chapel - And i'm watching with a damn tear in my eye, wondering to myself how I could possibly thank this kid. I don't mean signing my name on a petition, or making a donation to some fund that he'll never see a dollar of (even though i still will), or prayers... It's not good enough. I wanna look him in the eye, shake his hand and tell him he's a goddamn hero, and there's millions of other people who think the same. But I can't. I want to...but i can't.
Remember that kid that went on msnbc, and has a website saying the soldiers get what they deserve - that little
b@stard deserves to be lying in that hospital, crippled for the rest of his life. Not dead, that's not punishment at all.
I agree, this whole situation is [censored] up...but whether you are for or against the war in Iraq, do not ever forget those men and kids over there getting killed and maimed for us. Our fathers, brothers, sisters, mothers, friends, teachers, doctors, and fellow americans are over there dying...for us. Whether you feel the US is right or wrong makes no difference, they are serving in the best interests of their country - a very honorable cause.
These are true american heroes. The same goes for ANY serciveman killed in the line of duty for this country - EVER. There are several military people on this board to whom i've expressed my gratitude, and for those i've missed...I want you to know you have my utmost respect for having the courage to do something I could never do.
