Well, from the way you said it, I was about to lay into you as well. Seriously, if you are going to make "comments" like that, you need to add that you are not downing the whole thing, just curious as to how much it costs.
I actually don't know how much it would cost because as stated before, it's the LEAST we could do for the Captain.
Actually, when it comes to funerals or things like that, the pilots don't get "paid" for it. They normally volunteer to do things like that. Usually these pilots are off duty. They get a salary for their jobs, no overtime. So it was free to get the pilots, just have to pay for the jet fuel I would guess.
The ONLY military people who get paid to do funerals are the Honor Guards.

... As was I. Because although I may be against our involvement in Iraq, I give the servicemen and women of this country the ultimate respect for the job they perform. The fallen-man formation is one of the most time-honored of traditions that this country has, and no less of a token of honor and appreciation should be bestowed upon those who lay down their lives in the name of this country.

I used to work near Andrews Air Force Base and I always got a hard-on when the fighters would do fly-bys....
