In regards to people at the auto-x I don't forsee any huge turnout for it unless it is one of the main events on Friday or Saturday. Sunday is the travel day for most people so at best you can figure on some spectators that will come and hang out to watch and leave whenever they want. I don't see why the people are complaining about the drive to the dragstrip. I was towing a big a$$ trailer the whole way there and the guys following me thought we moved along pretty well. Rick

Next year's dragstrip experience will be a good one! Once a month, Muncie Dragway has a "Smokin' Friday Nights", which is usually a huge turnout. We will plan on organizing Spring Zing around that date. I'm already thinking next year will be a huge turnout!

Fort Wayne sounds good again. The above mentioned things were all that realy needed to be fixed. Just make sure to actualy try out your map, before handing it to the out of towners , maybe a list of all 40 names for each street, lol. If were going to plan a bigger dragstrip day and attend a large event there, we absolutly need to add it earlier in the day schedule. Like be at the track around 4/5:00. Nobody shows up to race at a strip at 8 or 9. Oh how about a BBQ at show and shine? Or change the location of the SS to a park. If there is a good one around.

Even though we all went so far out of our way, the drive was fun! This was my first SZ but Fort Wayne was awesome. I would have no objections to the zing in FW again. Lets get even more people this time though... And make some newbs come!
Had people traveled in a pack and not single file, we could have burned through some lights without getting anyone caught up. Then there was Chad that RAN OUT OF GAS WHEN HE KNEW WE HAD A LONG DRIVE AHEAD OF US!! Not sure where else we had to stop, other than people missing lights, but it's not a tough concept to keep up with the people that are leading the pack. Next year I'll make up a very detailed map for the drive down to Muncie Draway. SZ06 in Fort Wayne!!

lol Chad ran out of gas?? How many other people ran out of gas? Don't feel bad though, I probly would of been one of those people! Ill plan accordingly gas-wise for next year though.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

I agree that we should get to the track as soon as we can. I would like to leave straight from the dyno, as was our initial plan for this year, so maybe we'll just have to make that part of the dragstrip criteria. Everyone went back to the hotel and got sidetracked, so we'll just leave directly from Dynotech next year.
A BBQ wouldn't be a bad idea. We didn't think about it this year, as the Show n' Shine was from ~2:00 - 5:30, so people had time to get some lunch before, and be hungry in time for the banquet meal in the evening. Besides, I don't know if we could have made the $25.00 registration fee stretch far enough to get a commercial grille and 50+ hamburgers and hotdogs.

As far as the BBQ goes, I know that at our open track day we have a dinner on Saturday night that is optional. Basically it's a la carte catered by a local grocery store and added on to the event registration same as the dyno deposit and such. Usually ours runs $10/person for a banquet type dinner served out at the track.
Realistically that is the only way you're going to do it. There is no way anyone will want to stand over a grille for a couple hours serving up 100 burgers and dogs plus provide fixins and drinks for everyone on top of running the show and shine.

I ended up having to back out at the last minute. But everyone i have spoken to and looking at posts around here, Ft. Wayne seems to be the spot. I also wouldnt mind it being down south more. I think a neutral location would get more ceg'ers from north and south regions interested. I bet you would see record numbers attending. But whatever, im going no matter where it is, so whatever you all choose is great.

I think a lot goes into choosing a location for a once a year event like Spring Zing. We have to take a lot into consideration. For instance Chris, with Nashville, TN, who here is from that location? How long have they been with CEG? How dedicated are they to their Contour, that they're not going to start the organization, and then get bored with it or sell the car and drop everything in 3 months? Also, what is in the location? We'd have to hear back from Nashville locals to get more info. When Jim and I started a thread about having Spring Zing 05 in Fort Wayne, we knew that everything was pretty centralized, and that the city is fairly easy to get around in. Not to take away from a city like Nashville, because it is a beautiful city, but someone in the area would have to step up to the task.

Have to remember a huge portion of die hards are close to the great lakes region. It's just so much easier to have close to here for everyone.
