SSR, who also makes turbo kits for the VQ35, will disagree with your assessment. Call them and ask them yourself. The early SSR turbo kits (and others) produced a number of blown engines not because of a weak bottom end but because of tuning/detonation issues. There are now plenty of 350Z's running 400whp on stock bottom ends for tens of thousands of miles with no problems over on my350z.com.
That said, anything beyond 400whp and you're best off building up the engine internals. There's one guy with a 350Z vert running almost 600whp on a built VQ35TT setup, that car is just plain mean!
Good luck selling your 6, you've done a nice job on it. I like the looks of the RX8 but history shows real reliability problems with all of the Mazda rotary powerplants. Hopefully, the new Renesis is a leap forward in this respect. Get ready for that crappy rotary gas mileage though!
