all the big directors have signature syles. and its hard to do something 100% original now adays becuase everything has already been done. Remeber this was a remake. 1953 was long before independence day, heck Roland Emmerich had not even been born yet. So if anything id4 borrowed from the original WOTW.

And yes CATCF does look very bad, The original isnt old enough to need to be redone. I look at remakes like this.

The only reason they should do remakes is, if the orig. wasnt good, because the tecnology wasnt good enough to do it right, in the 40's it would have been imposible to film LOTR, because they didnt have cg and everything else it takes to make that story come to life. Perfect example would be star wars episode 4,5,6
Those will never be remade simply becuase they could not have been done better even with todays tecnology, look at episode 1,2,3 fun movies to watch but they dont have that "magic" the old ones do. They never have to remake the wizard of oz because it was done perfect in 1952, however WOTW was a story about aliens invading the world and destroying everything, that was imposible to film in the 50's SOOOOO it was remade. In other words some movies should be remade. and some dont need to be.
