Aside from the visual/audio grandeur of seeing War of the Worlds in the theater, not much else within the movie impressed me. I simply couldn't get past the derivativeness of most of the film. Not only did it seem like Spielberg was borrowing from other films, but many scenes also were too strikingly close to his own material. It was like I was watching Close Encounters, Minority Report, Titanic, Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Signs, etc. all crammed into one movie. Unfortunately for WOTW, it as a whole did not equal the sum of its parts.
P.S. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory looks like it's going to be a big pile of chocolate dung.
