so in other words its like in the simpson episode where homer goes back in time and sneezes? All the dinosaurs just drop dead! I would have to say if that is the end of WOTW I would be pissed because SIMPSONS DID IT!

Heheheh...you're funny.

Anyway, to expand on my earlier post, I've always loved the WOTW story, so this movie fulfilled so many of my needs. One thing I didn't need was that compulsive Trekkie desire to have everything explained and tied up in neat little technobabbly bows. Alien technology is supposed to be mysterious and overwhelming, and same for their motivations. The lack of understanding why and how the machines came to be on earth and why the attack happened just adds to the horror of the situation. I thought that Spielberg absolutely nailed it. Having the entire film be based in what Ray sees and not going the ID4 route of showing scenes from around the world (except that brief and sad moment in the news van with the video) really makes the emotional impact and "you are there" realism stick hard. I haven't been this tense and on edge in a film in ages. And the sound editing...my God, the sounds from the machines would have driven me mad. I found myself at some point thinking "I think I'd rather just put a bullet in my head instead of worrying about those damn things coming over a hill for me."
