I saw it tonight. I actually really liked it. It wasn't exactly a deep character development, but I was more interested in the plot succession than the character story. The ending was perfectly fine with me, as someone previously said, it's a nice touch of insult to see these insurmountable all powerful aliens die from a disease that we have become so adept at handling. Kind of a slap in the face from Darwin, if you ask me. Either way, IMHO, it's worth paying to see it in the theatres. To sum it up, it's an Independence Day, but done more intelligently and does the "Aliens try to take over the World!" story plot better than any other movie of that type to date.
Oh and I have to add that I actually got a little choked up in one scene where the little girl is crying herself to sleep and wants to hear a lullaby, but Tom Cruise is such a selfish bastage he doesn't even know a song to make her happy. I think he did a great job coming into character in this scene, and it was a touching moment, for me at least.

LMAO.
I read about "Last Samurai" in Entertainment Weekly, "Tom Cruise plays Tom Cruise playing a Civil War veteran..." etc. (I liked that movie, anyway.)

The part of the ending that had me saying "WTF??" was Cruise yelling "Look at the birds!" WTF did that have to do with anything?

Lol, c'mon stazi! The shields were disabled due to the aliens weakened state. The birds showed that by landing on the ships.

3.3 out of 4 Did anyone feel the Jurassic Park moment when they were hiding in the basement?
A great summer flick, totally worth seeing once and not bad to see again.
I'll buy the DVD.
