I saw something like this on tech tv a while back (back when it was tech tv to give you an idea). I don't remember if it was a google project or not. Anyway, I downloaded it and it was damn cool. I especially like how you can plot driving directions!

I just wish you could zoom closer on some area's.

[censored] coolest thing ever!

Turn on 3D Buildings in a city that has them and look at it then. It's sweet as hell. You can turn them on and tilt the camera down to road-level and it is spot on. Even the little tiny buildings. They even line up perfectly with the existing shadows. Amazing. Simply amazing.

I put in the address for the infamous Book Depository where Oswald was when he shot Kennedy simply because I know the view pretty well. You can line the camera up where the window would be and see exactly the same thing out the window as you can out the real thing, grassy knoll and all. Technology never ceases to amaze me.

The program you might all be thinking about is called Keyhole's EarthViewer. Google bought Keyhole in October of 2004. Since, they have taken EarthViewer, Googlized the interface, added a few things, and re-released it.

I'm a map freak, so this thing has me up in arms. I've torn through the airplane graveyard in Tucson, Vatican in Rome, Giza, Hong Kong...

Tons of fun. Mcmurdo Station in Antartica isn't coming up, though. It seems like they have the entire region around it blurred. Odd.

The Emperor's Palace in Beijing was amazing. I had no idea it was so incredibly huge. Just put in "Beijing, China" and go a couple miles to the SW.

This is just like Keyhole. Google purchased keyhole from the original owners, and it supports pan, tilt, and scrolling navigation, as well as much higher resolutions, and better quality (location dependant) than this.

Still cool, nonetheless, and as an EV (earth viewer) fan, I can applaud..
