I totally agree with this, it's something I actually say to people quite often. Whenever we get on the topic of my life growing up, people always say that they think I should have had it easier, but I always say it is what makes me what I am today!
This is why I would not change most of the things. Silly little things, like getting a lasting injury from stupidity, yes, spending time with my dad, yes, but some of the real bad stuff ... no, it really does give you a perspective on life.

The past is done, the future is open. We all wish at times we did something different, that something never happened, or that we were someone else, but it cannot be changed. It's called dealing with reality, and accepting responsibility for our own actions.

Well ... I digress, but that struck a chord with me.

Well.. this post isn't to "Dwell" per se on the past... everyone missed their chance or didn't do what they wanted at some point in their life. The idea is the fact that you CAN still fulfill your past dreams.

I'm not sure. I would do college differently, maybe not go right out of high school. I had no goals and nothing that I really wanted to do, so I wasted a lot of time and tuition (worked and put myself through college). I have a BS now, but at (nearly) 35 haven't really found my work niche or anything that I really like/ care about or am good at.

EXCEPT being a father ! I love my wife and kids and love most aspects of our life ! I just wish I could provide for them better. We are looking at probably moving out of New England so that we can afford a home. Which means a new job, new location, no family, etc. But kids need to have a home, and my in-laws aren't really that much help anyway.

I would definitely be better with money in my single days, and would have not come into a marriage with debt.

EDIT - I was looking over some of the other posts, and I agree that the choices and experiences in our past make us into who we are today. I just truly have some regrets, mainly involving money. I guess that part of myself and who I am I don't like. And I just can't quite seem repair the damage and move on, can't ever get ahead.

I'm not one to dwell on past missteps - I try to see the lesson in everything and go from there. That said, it would have been cool if I had gotten out of my last relationship after 3 years instead of 6

I think about this a lot, but then again, I've already changed some things in my life:

I wouldn't have gone to college straight out of school.. I wouldn't have worked my but off in high-school only to smoke too much weed and drink too much beer in college.

I would have told her how I felt/feel rather then letting her run off to Africa.

I would have seen my parents divorce coming 10 years ago and persuaded them to go through with it then.

But hey, things happen for a reason. I started in pre-med 6 years ago in school, graduated with a BA in anthropology, and am now going back for graduate work in Nursing next month. You just have to make your mind up and go with it, and not think about the 'what-ifs'

If I could change one thing it would be smoking pot, or cut back.

I wish i would have seen through the BS that is my current major and picked something different. I now got 1 year left to get a peice of paper which i think is totally worthless. Hopefully I can just get a job and pay off the loans, rofl.

If I could do it over again, I wouldn't change a damn thing different. Dwelling on the past and having regrets is a waste of time and energy.
