"Chevron with Techron" the only fuel to be endorsed by THREE of the major automobile manufacturers" Can't remember who they were, but that's what the billboard said, at least.

Quick! Someone insert a poll!

I would, but I am clueless on UBB code, in fact, this is the first place I've seen it.

Actually, the Techron additive does work. The concentration is gas is small, but I run a bottle of the stuff every 5K miles or so. I like Diamond Shamrock (Valero) the most. I believe they are out of San Antonio, Texas so I don't know how far north you will find them, but I consistently get good mileage and their price is usually lowest. Shell is terrible, and Exxon is hit or miss. There is one Exxon that makes my mom's Taurus always ping. BP is great, but the only station even close is at least 5 miles away.

I love BP gas stations. I'll drive out of my way to go to them. They always seem clean and well kept, and some even play jazz outside and in.

A little more research on the net yielded this website: http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

As I thought, not all gasoline brands are the same. All gas originates in the same manner, but the removal or addition of certain chemicals to the gas varies among brands, and this affects the quality of the gasoline. Apparently this affects emissions the most.

I am not sure if they still do it but Exxon use to have a red dye additive. In at least carbureted cars the dye would eventually clog the carb. Had this happen on my old Mazda pickup. Ever sense then staid away from Exxon. Not sure if it still relevant.

By the way gas is gas. It is shipped in pipe lines and all mixed together from the different manufactures. The difference is in the additives.

Also, avoid gasoline that uses ethanol to boost octane #'s when possible.

Yeah, the octane may be there, but power is down.
