So I was driving down the highway for about 20 miles, exited the off ramp, and I hear a loud Pop. The engine starts smoking so I pull over in the nearest parking lot. I discover the upper radiator hose exploded. Once the engine cools, we fix the hose, and add some additional coolant. I get back on the highway, drive about 3 miles, and smoke again. I immediately pull over. It was dark out at the time but from what we could tell, there was no new leak. At this time, however, the car would not start. When I would turn the key, all I would hear is the starter going. It is late so we tow the car to my friend's house like 5 miles away. That's where the car sits. During the daylight, we verified there are no new leaks present. But nonetheless, when you try and start the vehicle, you hear nothing but the starter. The belt is moving and all the pullies move. Any suggestions? I was going to get some WD-40 and spray it into the distributor cap to see if some antifreeze got in there but when I looked at the manual just now, it says this is a distributorless engine. Thanks!

By the way, I have a 1995 Contour with the 4cyl engine.

TTT. I'm going to drive out and look at the car again today. So far I don't have any great ideas other than pull the spark plug and verify spark. Other suggestions? Thanks

Pretty hot. When I checked up on the car a couple days ago, we added 2 gallons of coolant.

Okay. So I pulled one spark plug. It sparked fine. It looked like it might have a wee bit of coolant on it. I pulled another. Started the car and coolant shot out of the hole in my face. I'm told this indicates a blow head gasket? Any idea how much a repair like that costs or how many labor hours it might take?

Usually the cylinders aren't that filled with coolant. Maybe someone reading this has worked on the Zetec??
