Falcon 4.0 is an excellent sim with a very good mod community. Microprose no longer has support for it. The game in original form is very buggy so you will need to get it patched. I also recommend the realism patch. Falcon4.0 HQ is a good place to start looking for patches.

Ok I think you were talking about the new Falcon 4 coming out. If so you can disregard the part about the bugginess. But you can still check out FalconHQ for info

Lockon is great if you love total realism. You can not just jump into the game and the manual does not tell you how to get started. So prepare for hours of "training" Once you get through it though you can talk tech with real airforce pilots...

Enough said. If you want the most realistic flight sim there is. It may not be as pretty as Microsoft's though. You can actually have weather download real time into the game as you play. Companies use it to train pilots. You can also got to http://x-plane.org/ to download user created planes. I guess you would call it an open source program. I'm not that up to speed on computer programming. Austin Meyer, the programmer is an engineer and a pilot.

BTW, he also is a friend of a good friend of mine and lives about 3 miles from me. Straight up nerd, but one hell of a programmer. We all to a trip to NYC a few years back and he spent most of the time in the apartment writing code for this program. He also just bought a Ferrari 360, so you know he has good taste.

I still think the most fun I've had in a flying sim was Crimson Skies. Propeller airplanes that never existed and big-arsed Zeppelins as flying bases. WHEEEEE!!!

Lock On and Falcon are both excellent sims and backed up with an excellent community.

Falcon 4.0 is noted for being very realistic by the actual Falcon fighter pilots that play it. The patches that the community have made for it are a must. I have owned this game for years and while it *is* terribly complicated, it is a lot of fun for the challenge alone. In addition to flying, you have to worry about the radar scan patterns and heat seeking missle head coolant levels for crying out loud!

I have not played Lock-On myself, but have heard many great things about it.

If you are truly psycho, you can purchase TrackIR 3 to enable your head movements to change your in-cockpit view in 6 vectors. www.trackir.com
