Uh, no. Actually, the larger the tire/rim combo, the better the ride, so to speak. However, rim size doesn't really do anything for that category, it's all about your struts, etc. If you are planing on doing anysuspension work at all... 16" rims look crappy, 17 or even 18" is th eway to go.... once again, see my sig.

The lower the profile, the less "smushy" ride you will have. There is less sidewall to absorb bumps and such, so you will feel more of the road.
17s is not bad at all though if that's what you are concerned about. Just pair it up with the BAT kit and you'll be good to go.
