OK, here is what MX is trying to say. By sticking out further forward, it reduces the approach angle of the car. Ride height means nothing in what he was saying. It effective makes the car "lower" by reducing the angle at which it can climb inclines, or traverse dips.
I know its extreme, but imagine the plate sticking a foot past the front of the splitter. Think of how easily it would hit inclines. Same idea, just a 1/2" instead of 1'.
Really the only danger with mirko's is hitting objects/debris while driving. If you hit anything while driving, skidplate or not (especially if its only 1/32" thick!) the mirko will be trashed. Hell, any skidplate large enough to save the mirko from damage will probably just rip the entire piece from the front bumper. Much harder to fix than a scrape!
The mirko can withstand small scrapes just fine. Its pretty darn tuff. Ive only scraped mine once [knocks on wood] since Ive had it (about 5,000 miles). Its on the bottom, who cares?
The only thing the skidplate will protect against is small scrapes in the paint, where no one can see it anyway. If you hit something with enough force to damage more than the paint, that skimpy little plate ain't going to do ish.
