No, that doesn't sound reasonable. You can get a new fuel pump for probably ~$90.00(estimate) from Bill Jenkins. Depending on how you want to install it, it can be done in a couple of hours at most. I watched Stazi tear into mine from under the backseat. Took him probably 30-45 minutes, total time.
