Please explain... I think I am misinterpreting you to say that the automaker knows better what car I want to own than I do. I am glad that you at least see my vision for perfection, even if you seem more resigned than I am that nobody is trying to achieve it.
Explanation: Car enthusiasts like you and I long for the day that we can log on to the Internet, design our own car with our own layout, number of doors, sedan/hatch/wagon/minivan/truck/SUV, the engine we want with the amount of pistons and fuel efficiency that we want with options like HID, navigation, polished burlwood and Nappa leather and suede lined seats all at no cost as well as the size and style wheels that we want. Then charge it to a credit card and have it shipped in a box to our front doors so we can assemble it ourselves.

However the marketplace does not tailor to you and I individually, so in essence, automakers do not build for individuals. They build for the average consumer. In actuality they do not, but they think they know more than we do.
I don't know any simpler way to put it.
