It is your "High Side Schrader Valve" I know because I had the same exact problem and when I took it to the dealer, thats what it was. Mine was under warrenty so it didn't cost anything.

Mine was the Low side shrader valve, so far, so good!
I think the valves are a common problem, and it is hard to figure out. Mine leaked sometimes, but I happened to see bubbles coming out of it, when I went to check pressure after losing R134 again...

My 99 Ford contour se does the same exact thing you described.. anyway I had it charged it was suppoes to have like 1 p 10 once or something like that of refrig.. it had only 10 onces.. I charged it up and my car does get cold but it still is colder on the passenger side.. its almost like thats where the cold air comes in from. My God the cold air comes from the vent (figured I would beat someone to the punch on that one!)

My sister's car seemed to do that one day, the sun was on the driver's side, and pass side was shaded...I retested it later and it was OK. Check your vent thumbwheels. I set mine at sides:full open (white mark up) center just about full open. The cold air originates from the center of the car. 1 pound 10 oz sounds like you are fully charged, there is a sticker under the hood to verify that. My Mystique is well cooled now..
