FWIW, my ancient 15 year old Oldsmobile has had only one safety recall and that didn't even apply to my car because it doesn't have the optional air bag system: Quote:
Recall Date: OCT 30, 1990 Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL Potential Units Affected: 39 Summary: THREADED INFLATOR COMPONENTS MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED DURING ASSEMBLY WHICH MAY ALLOW COMPONENTS TO SEPARATE WHEN INFLATOR RECEIVES A SIGNAL TO DEPLOY THE AIR BAG. Consequence: INFLATOR COMPONENT SEPARATION ALLOWS HOT COMBUSTION GASESTO ESCAPE INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHICH COULD RESULT IN INJURIES TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS. Remedy: REPLACE AIR BAG MODULES CONTAINING POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE INFLATORS. Notes: GENERAL MOTORS CORP.,
The Jetta has had 2 recalls:
Quote:
1998 Volkswagen Jetta TDI NHTSA Recall ID Number: 03V156000 Recall Date: APR 23, 2003 Component: EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS Potential Units Affected: 9811 Summary: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.8L VR6 ENGINES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, ???â??TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS.???â? THE RECOMMENDED COLD TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE PUBLISHED ON THE LABEL FOR TIRES OF THE SIZE 205/50 R15 86H IS 0.1 BAR (1.45 PSI) TOO LOW. IT SHOULD BE 2.5 BAR (36.3 PSI). THE LABEL RECOMMENDS 2.4 BAR (34.8 PSI = 35 PSI). Consequence: UNDER INFLATED TIRES CAN AFFECT VEHICLE HANDLING, AND DRIVING WITH SUBSTANTIALY UNDER INFLATED TIRES PUTS THE CONSUMER AT A RISK FOR A CRASH. Remedy: OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH CORRECTED LABELS, OR A DEALER CAN INSTALL THE LABEL IF THE OWNER WISHES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN SEPTEMBER 29, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT VW AT 1-800-893-5298. Notes: VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA,INC, WP
1998 Volkswagen Jetta TDI NHTSA Recall ID Number: 02V026000 Recall Date: JAN 25, 2002 Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:FILLER PIPE AND CAP Potential Units Affected: 487284 Summary: ON SOME PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE FUEL TANK FILLER NECK CAN SUFFER ABRASION DAMAGE IF THE REAR TIRE GOES FLAT AND THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN UNTIL THE TIRE DISINTEGRATES. Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE CAN OCCUR INCREASING THE RISK OF A FIRE. Remedy: DEALERS WILL FIT PASSAT VEHICLES WITH A NEW WHEEL HOUSE LINER THAT WILL BETTER PROTECT THE CAR'S FILLER NECK. JETTA VEHICLES WILL BE FITTED WITH A DIFFERENT METAL SHIELD DESIGNED TO ENHANCE ABRASION PROTECTION IN THE EVENT OF TIRE DISINTEGRATION. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JUNE 13, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987. Notes: VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA,INC, WK
I've had the second one taken care of and the first one doesn't apply to mine.

He's not even worth flaming, I mean come on, a cavalier? Awesome! GM? Awesome! Hm, I wonder why there have been countless posts and news stories about GM losing its sales and not Ford. Obviously, it's because Ford is such a bad company. That's why Ford is selling all their cars at the employee discount price to up sales, right?

In the interest of fairness, Ford is doing this too. Just not quite so openly. They gave all their employees extra X-Plan PINs this month to give out to whomever they want and they get a small commission for every friend they get to buy a car.

That's a good point that I thought about, BUT the one major thing to focus on, is that Ford is giving their employee's an extra commision still, GM to my knowledge is not, just giving everyone the discount.
