And Ford wonders why its vehicles sales are down and that the resale value is so bad.....


DETROIT (Reuters) - Federal safety regulators have opened a probe into a possible safety defect involving about 650,000 of Ford Motor Co.'s large Expedition sport utility vehicles from the 1999 through 2001 model years.

In an advisory posted on its Web site on Monday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said its investigation was triggered by complaints about water leaking into the vehicles when it rains or snows.

NHTSA said it had received 20 complaints about the water seeping in around the windshield, which can cause windshield wipers or other electrical components to malfunction.

"We're aware of the investigation and we're working with NHTSA on determining what the issue is," said Ford spokeswoman Kristen Kinley, adding that no accidents or injuries had been reported.

Just last week NHTSA said Ford, the No. 2 U.S. automaker, was recalling nearly 260,000 vehicles, most of them large pickup trucks, to fix safety defects that include sudden stalling of their diesel engines.


Sales of the Expedition and other mid- and large-size SUVs have weakened significantly this year on a shift in consumer sentiment prompted by the recent run-up in U.S. gasoline prices.

I don't think you understand how recalls work. FYI, Ford is one of the best when it comes to recalls per car made. The reason you see Ford recalls everywhere, is simply because they make so many more cars than most other people. Who is on top of the list of recalls per car made? The ones you wouldn't suspect, like Porsche and VW. I don't remember the entire list, but Ford wasn't all that bad. They just make so many cars, theres bound to be problems. Everyone makes a big deal out of nothing.

Ford is very proactive in its recalls compared to many other automakers, recalling things not even proven to be hazards.

The last thing Ford wants is lawsuits so they call vehicles back for damn near everything thesedays. The cost of a million-vehicle recall is a fraction of the payout to a single victim in a lawsuit due to something that Ford didn't fix.

Besides, of all car companies, I think Ford cares most about their customers, hince the reason why Ford is never top story about "goin under".

Like said above, the last thing Ford wants is another Firestone inncident, so they're being safe, rather than sorry. To me, that seems like a good thing. Would you rather have a car from a company that would just sweep it under the rug(like so many do)?
