I guess it would have been worth the pulling off then... I can't believe that I couldn't pinpoint it! I had my ear paralell to the engine and moved it all over the surface of the engine as it ran. I think that I was biased by the first mechanic saying waterpump. After that, my focus was entirely on that one side, even though it was more subliminal than anything
