I need to ask too; why overcharge is so 'bad' and what is considered overcharge? 10% over? 25%? 50%?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Because you'll bust a line. Only so much pressure you can put on a rubber hose.

Anybody here bust their line due to overcharge?

I'd imagine that will hard to do even by home charging method( ie., guessing ). That's because it's charged on the low pressure side from a pressurized can. If the pressure on the car A/C line is higher than the pressure inside the charge can, it won't charge any more. And I know the low pressure side is designed to operate up to 90psi on a hot day.

Who has real life experience to share to agree or rebut this? Thanks.

my experience lies in residencial hvac. i can't imagine an auto a/c unit using rubber lines anywhere because i have never seen that in a residencial unit. generally one can cause severe damage to the compressor when overcharging. i've seen this before.
