Yeah, Legacy GT for anonymous looking Rally car, STi for obvious testostrone-driven rally car, RX-8 for hot looking twisty-road machine, S4 for EXPENSIVE torque-monster luxury rocket.

What would I do? A Miata: '94 R (or M) or '99 Sport with FM ubercharger and coilovers for weekend/summer fun - $10-15k. Brand new Legacy GT with better shocks and good progressive springs for a more BMW-like ride, plus a chip for boost control: $30k.

Still less than the S4, and in what you'd save on gas you could pay the extra insurance/inspection, etc.
