I never got a call from any recruiters until I showed interest in the Navy around my 19th b-day. Got some hounding Navy ones, and met up with a Marine recruiter that I pretty much told I already joined the Air Force before he'd leave me alone...

I keep reading articles in Stars and Stripes about the Army and Marines missing their goals by a lot. The Army even reduced it's goal, and it still didn't meet that.

Then you read the last sentence in all of them that says "The Air Force and Navy didn't have any problems meeting their goal".

You can say they're not joining the Army or Marines b/c they think they'll not be deployed over here. But that's not the case... a bunch Air Force people (including me) went through some crash course Army convoy/survival training so we could come over here and do whatever they felt like making us do (read: they wanted us to be their [censored]). I suppose I was lucky to end up in Kuwait doing my normal job at the Army bases around here. The other guys we trained with ended up going to Iraq and may actually be using the skills the Army taught us.

All I can say is good luck to those in the hostile areas...

why? because i changed my mind before i was trapped with no way out?? as said in here by many, many times before, its not for everybody. so dont sit there at your computer and say things about me when you dont know me.

e1, im glad i didnt serve in "your" corp as well. that's why i didnt go in i dont need to be anybody's robot. i can think for myself and dont need someone else telling me what i can and cant do. which is basically what you get in the service. am i wrong? are you not to follow exactly what somebody else tells you to do? you are not your own person any longer. i dont work that way, sorry if it doesnt fit your "mold" that you want everyone else to fit into. some people can be soldiers and others cannot. im a leader, not a follower. you have to be a follower or things just wont work. im glad you have your semper fi pride and what not. that's great. good for you and yours. im sure it works very well for you.

while youre bashing me, why dont you bash the other 98% of the people who are on this board for not joining either

The way the military works is you have to be a follower and a leader. The people under you have to obey your orders and you have to obey orders.

Military traditions go back hundreds of years. When a person joins the military they learn about military traditions. They are serving their country.

There is nothing wrong with not wanting to be in the military. Some people don't have the discipline to be in the military. The jobs in the military vary a lot. Some jobs are really easy and some are more difficult. I had one of the easier jobs when I was in the military.

? ? As I was getting close to graduating from high school, in 1981, an Army recruiter began calling me.?  At first, I didn't mind.?  I politely told him that I had different plans for my life, which eventually involved going into the Air Force.?  He wouldn't give up, and the calls became more frequent, and more aggressive.

? ? Finally, I told him that his conduct had crossed the line into outright harassment, and that if he didn't knock it off, I was going to see to it that criminal charges were pressed against him.?  His last words to me were â??F___ you!â?, then he hung up and didn't bother me again.

? ? I later learned that a close friend of mine had been persuaded by this same recruiter to go to some event in Los Angeles, where he was coerced into signing up under the threat that if he didn't, he was going to just be left there, hundreds of miles from home, with no way of getting back.

I do whatever I want, to an extent.

The services are way different in the way they think. Being deployed with the Army, they tell you to do something and expect it to get done any way possible. We (as in the Air Force) give them feedback on how we're going to do it and what we need to get it done. They were kinda confuzed at first...

That is simply insulting to me.

? ? If I regarded myself as a â??buttpirateâ?, then I would certainly find it highly insulting to be thus compared to an unethical military recruiter, such as has been described, and such as I, myself have personally encountered.?  I do think that this poster owes an apology to all buttpirates.

I do understand that recruiters do pressure people, but the kid obviously said or did something that made them think that he wanted to join. I did recruiting duty for ~6 months (the quotas are tough, even during non-wartime) -- and you don't waste time on someone who's not going to join, there are too many other kids you can talk into it.

? ? That sounds an awful lot to me like a classic excuse? â??? now rather universally rejected? â??? for rape.?  She must have wanted it.?  She must have given some indication that she was interested.?  She didn't really mean it when she said â??No!â?

? ? I'll tell you this much:? ? I had made it quite clear to the recruiter who was harassing me that I wasn't going to join the Army, especially not if there was any chance whatsoever that he might be able to take credit for it.?  He wouldn't stop calling.?  It took a credible threat of criminal prosecution to get him to finally leave me alone.

? ? I'm all for supporting the military, especially in times like these, but I cannot support or defend overly aggressive recruiters who resort to the kind of unethical behavior that I, myself, have personally experienced.?  Such as these cast great dishonor upon themselves, on the military organizations which they represent, and on our nation.?  They belong in prison.

In WWII we had a president and commander in chief who didn't lie and made it clear exactly why we were fighting. We were attacked. FDR didn't declare war on Columbia when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor, we went after Japan. The reasons were valid and compelling. There was no problem finding recruits to fight that war ( both of my parents served in WWII, father Navy, mother Army. Neither was drafted, they both joined).

Now we have a liar for president and commander in chief, who fabricates evidence to start a war with a country that never attacked us and was of no credible threat to us. The reasons for this war are not valid and ambiguous. Gee, can't imagine why the military is having trouble recruiting people......

So are you going to add to the conversation or just belittle her opinion? Time to take your [censored] elsewhere, don't you think?

I added to the conversation by belittling her opinion because it's tired liberal crap. I guess that concept was too hard for you to grasp.
