I have the symptom where my heater fan only blows on high and I've read the solution concerning the switch and resistor pack. However, I still have a question to help determine if it is the switch or the resistor pack.
My fan behaves this way. If the switch is set to the lower settings, then the fan does nothing. If I set the switch to high, then the fan comes on and blows at high speed.
If the resistor pack is bad, does the fan blow at high speed no matter what setting the switch is at or does it cause the behavior that I mentioned above?
Thanks.

If the resistor pack is bad,it will usually only work on high. Cuz when operating on high, the motor uses no resistance to work...there for no need for a resistor. Check your blower motor fuse also, if it's blown, Ill bet it IS the resistor pack doing it.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

The individual resistors in the pack are used only to provide lower blower motor operating voltages for the lower fan speeds.
In the HIGH speed position, no resistors are used, it's just a straight-through electrical connection (via the resistor pack module and switch)from the blower to switched battery power.

SO the problem is this blower motor? Where the hell is this motor and where can I get a new one? Hey Kevin let me know if you fix this. I really hate having my AC on high all the time. It's annoying. Thanks.

IT IS THE RESISTER PACK!
Why do you post if you don't bother to read the responses? The resister pack is not the blower motor.
When you check the resister pack, also check to make sure that it did not damage the wiring connector that attaches to the resister pack.
The resiser pack can be found behind the glove box. It mounts on (in) the heater box. The resister portion of it is in the heater box and the connector is outside the heater box.
If you wanted to do a search, there are even pictures.

If you find that you have to replace the resistor pack more then once, then I would suspect a bad motor. If it is the first time then its probably the undersized factory original that was covered under an extended warranty.

Does this recall apply to 2000 Contours? My friend's 2000 has this symptom and it only has around 55K miles on it. Alldata didn't show it applies for the 2000s, but is there still a chance?

I had a bad resistor pack and only had only about 50-55,000 miles on it. Mine's a 2000 and my car has no open recalls.

So that wiring harness will just pop out? I am confused on the bit of soldering I heard about in another thread. I want to fix this Contour without taking it to the dealer.
