I have the SkiFi2... ultimate Electronics (before they started closing stores) offered a free home boom box for a week with a skufi2 purchase.. so I bought 2 car kits ($50 ea) the Skifi2 (on sale $70) & got the boom bos free ($100 normally)... the regualt "house kit" to hook up to your home stereo is the same $50 as a car kit. the boom box is portable (with antenna) & I just run a jack from the boom box to my 5.1 receiver & the antenna is out ont he back side fo the house..

In the CSVT the antenna is dead center on the roof centered above the rear view mirror.. small, discreet.. looks fine.

If you ahve access to the area under the plastic cowl panel (iunder the wipers) reception there is good. any time you try to read Sat signal through glass or metal you are fighting a loosing battle.

On the technology: it is NOT using Cell towers or any land based transmission system... hmm. "S-A-T-E-L-I-T-E" Radio.... you know those metal things swinging around the earth at mach whatever?... come-on.. logic...

Last thought: Sirus vs Xm... If you want 15 versions of Hip hop, rock, or jazz, & like the over-processed sound of FM (just CD quality) get Sirus. If you want puresound quality, more diversity, & more talk-news-sports-playboy.. get XM... I have both in my truck.. I rare listen to Sirius any more.. I am constantly adjusting the sound with the EQ to deal with Sirius... just my .02

Land repeaters are nothing more than "mirrors" that bounce the signal around in congested areas... the technology is not dependant on cell towers like someone else said... I should ahve been more "specifc"...

they both use compressed formats, and SQ is similar between the two. individual channels will often eq differently. the ones with heavy eq'ing are often the top 40 and hip hop stations. but in all honesty, if your concern with sat. radio is purely SQ, you'll be disappointed with both.

my advice is to spend some time listening to both of them on the internet, as i think they both offer free trial subscriptions. pick the one you prefer based on the programming offered.

I got a Pioneer 4600 with the XM built in and got the Terk add-on for 100 including the antenna. I ran the antenna between the weatherstip of the front passenger door and up the side of the dash and placed on top of the dash/corner windshield next to the defroster vent. the wiring is hidden by the A pillar cover. i really didnt want to put it outside.

it still sounds great. i had it off for 2 months and just reinstalled it today took 30 minutes
if you want a pic PM me and ill go snap one

my question of what is up with this forum, is why is it that everyone is their own expert & is so dayum rude.... "futurewhatever" was a dig at my screen/user name.. I got the point...

Am I certified in something? Actually yes.. I am degreed in Acuoustic Engineering, an MECP Master Certified Installer, An IASCA, USCA, CAN, & NACA install & sound quality certified judge... but that doesn't really matter.. its the freakin attitude of the kids that post here...

When I joined I rolled through the Audio forum & was amazed with the miss-information presented here.

Oh well.. good luck to all..

I apologize, at no point in any of your posts did you appear to have any of these qualifications. As a SQ judge, I am sure you have met some of the guys on this forum if you did anything but hometown events.

What other "miss information" amazed you? Was it one of the threads about larger speakers not being slower? Or that cheap speaker wire sounds the same as expensive wire? Or that using a green marker on your CDs doesn't make bass sound fuller? Or that you don't need to spend a fortune on audio to get very good sound? Or maybe it was one of the threads about the inability for Bose to make a good sounding speaker. Perhaps these notions offended you.
