OK, how about a fuel pump cutting out and needing to reset the battery in order to get it working again to start the car? That will need replacement, right? Too bad mine is a return system.

Lizard: your problem is the dirty sock filter on the lower half of the pump. Access the pump via the rear seat, and remove the plastic sock piece. Research the dirty sock for pictures and a how-to.

Ray,
Do you know if the sock filters can be bought separetly yet. When I switched over to the FSVT pump you couldn't but that was last fall. I just went into the tank last week to clean the sock filter...again. Also is it safe to just do without the filter? I got rid of the round screen on the bottom but I put the sock one back on.

ditch the sock filter.. there is an internal one as well to keep larger particles (big enough to harm the pump) out. the sock is just TOO fine.

IFAIK, you can't purchase the sock seperately, and the newer ones, that you CAN purchase seperately don't work as a swap-in replacement.. you'd have to have a newer style pump to accept that style sock.

What tells you this? Is this common with a returnless?

Did you also check the fuel filter?

Yes.

The original returnless fuel pumps and MAINLY prefilter were prone to starvation when around 1/4 tank of fuel or less.

I removed my prefilter years back now after having that problem and haven't had a problem since. I was expecting to have to have put in the SVTF pump long ago.
