The only thing keeping air from the radiator, are the reflector pieces that are on each end of the lower grill of the SVTs. Also, I don't see taking the gaskets off of the grill and rear of the hood, lowering temps THAT much. 116 you say? I take it your car was on the upswing in temps from just starting it up? Or on the downslide of letting it cool for a while.
