What's the best way to get the white residue from a wax job off the black trim around the mirrors, weather strips, etc? Does any particular product work well or just some strong elbow grease? Thanks.

Ah, this is the project I've been working on for the past week.. After trying practically everything on the market that claimed to actually do it (but they don't), I heard that Simple Green would do it - And it does. I use Simple Green, let it soak, scrub the hell out of it, and then clean it off with water and finish up with a coat of "Back to Black". Leaves a mess on the rest of the car, so you might want to try masking off the paint with tape or something. Good luck!

"Back to Black" is more or less a dressing that covers it. I removes some of it, but not all the residue left by wax and stuff.

I'm looking for a cleaner, not a coverer. Sounds like the Simple Green should do the trick according to the big boned one.

Hey! Respect my authority! Yeah, Simple Green will get rid of the residue, and then Back to Black will dress it and make it look nice and black again. I've only done half of my car so far, I should do the rest now that it's stopped raining..

Crap, scratch that idea.. Seemed good for about 2 days, but my guess is that the Back to Black was just covering up the mess.. As soon as the rain cleared, most of the wax buildup came back.. Not all, I still have some clean spots which puzzle me, but a big majority.

I also tried Kerosene today. Worked awesome for all of about 2 minutes. Then it dried up and went back to looking all crappy.

Might want to ask a professional detailer what they use. I'm just going to end up getting my car detailed anyway next month, so I might just let them deal with this mess.

Lemme know if you find something that does work. I still think Simple Green could work, it just takes an incredible amount of effort to get that junk off of there.

I have found 409 or windex to work pretty good.

Things that disolve/remove wax, let's see...

3M adhesive remover
3M bug and tar remover
rubbing alcohol

These are the best three I have used. Make sure to use a small brush and not a rag as the rag won't clear out the little pits in the textured plastic. Only use Back to Black after the wax is gone. HTH
