I know someone that is selling a Talon TSi for $650. Its first Gen with 74,000 miles, the clutch slips and I think the turbo is going bad. There is a slight smoke coming out of the back. The car has been sitting for 3 years with little movement and there is not a single leak on it. My biggest concern was the smoke, althought very faint, its still there and I wasn't sure if it would pass emissions. I would have enough to get the clutch put in. Do you guys think this is an investment? How hard would it be to install a rebuilt turbo?

Hope you have a fat checking account...
I do and my 91 GSX is still having problems..
Change the timing belt first thing..
I have dumped thousands into a car that now sits in my front yard.. I got mods galore.. Soon as I get it running again I am selling and putting the cash back into my STI

Good God! Run as far away from that thing as you can. DSMs are uber-popular here, and they're all tremendous money pits. If you want a daily driver, get a cheap Honda.

if I was you I would have bought it and parted it out. You could have easily gotten a nice profit from doing that. If the turbo was going bad that is most likly the cause of the smoke...depends on what the color of the smoke was. I loved my talon even though it was only a 2.0 nt...but like they said they are money pits. But at that price for an engine with that low of milage that isn't bad at all. Put another $1K in it and you could have some fun with it for a while before 3rd gear dies.

Our shop owns two Talon's -- great cars for us, and we've never had the problems the others speak about. (The cars see the dragstrip weekly, as well.)
