After searching and researching on the life of the factory ATX (with v6), I have come to the conclusion that the tranny will be on its way out in about the next 20-30K miles . My car is about to roll over 78K. That is of course assuming that my car is like everyone elses, and im sure it is. i dont beat the car hardly at all. Every now and then, I will get on the gas hard from a dead stop, but that is only once in a GREAT while. When i am in town, i drive around with the tranny in drive to prevent any shifting that is not needed. I change the fluid regularly, and basically do my best to make it last as long as i can. Any ideas on whether or not i may get lucky and my tranny last a little longer? Does anyone know how much it costs (roughly) to have it rebuilt? Thanks a lot guys.

if you really want it to last invest in a B&M trannie cooler... Hector has one of those on his S/C Zetec... 140K miles and still on the origional trannie, runnin good

Agreed, if you maintain, you'll be fine. Even now, if you want cheap insurance for keeping your tranny in top shape, add a cooler. Best investment for the potential savings you can possibly make on any ATX car - and you can take it with you to the next car!

Hector didn't add his cooler till after 100k miles IIRC, and he's doing fine. I didn't add a cooler to mine until after 70k and I used to ROMP on my Contour EVERY DAY! What a fun car! It was running perfect right up till somebody wrecked it for me...

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Thanks guys! Anywhere I should go look for one first that is cheapest? Bill Jenkins? How hard is it to install or do you have to have a shop do it for you? (If this is something i can search for just let me know. I'm at work so i dont want to spend too much time goofing off.) Thanks again guys.
