I took out the resonator on my '95 V6 and replaced it with a section of pipe. I then replaced the stock muffler with a Ractive muffler, and added a Vibrant cone filter.

I must say,IMO,my car sounds awesome. It's not too loud and not too quiet, and has a very aggressive exhaust note. I have no problems with rasping,or any other noticeable problems.

I used to have an '87 Celica with a Vibrant muffler and K&N intake, and the car sounded like a Honda eating a weed whacker. I also had an '88 RX7 with a K&N intake,2.5" piping and a Magnaflow muffler, and that sounded really nice, but I think the Contour sounds better than both of them.

I removed my resonator for free and it only took about 20 mins to remove it and install the new pipe and weld it up.

Is there any kind of performance gain by removing the resonator on an SVT or does it just give you a different sound to the exhaust system?

I found my GL to breathe much better by removing the resonator and installing an aftermarket muffler.
