I can't find a cheap running motor anywhere right now, but I have my choice of core blocks and heads for nothing, and if my intention is to go FI later, I should at least be smart and put forged pistons in now, that's how I'm looking at $1,000.

However, I made a discovery today, that raises new questions, but also suggest that the current motor is good. details are in an oil consumption post in the 3L forum. (or will be shortly)
